Dealing with a Downer, You can Smoke
Most smokers admit that cigarettes have some strange and powerful (almost supernatural) way of reducing stress and helping a person deal with a bad phase in his or her life. Yes, so the best way to deal with a downer is of course to take a puff from a tobacco-filled stick! A smoker going through a tough phase is most likely to take refuge in a cigarette, longing for a drag every now and then just to ease the tension.
Apart from this, most smokers will also tell you that there are many other benefits of smoking. This includes: increased concentration, more mental strength, an energy boost, and a good way to cure boredom and relax. So, in short, cigarettes can sometimes come as a blessing as they help take away the stress and ugliness out of life. Indeed, smoking can be tremendously uplifting and can awaken innate senses that are otherwise dormant or inactive. So basically, cigarettes can have two completely different effects on smokers – one being a more relaxed and tranquil feel of peacefulness and the other being a more empowering and energetic feeling of happiness.
What better way to get rid of those depressing downers that each and every one of us have experienced or will experience at some point in our lives? But, how do cigarettes go about lowering our stress levels, while keeping us on our toes for longer periods of time? The actual truth of the matter is that cigarettes don't really help smokers relax and can't really reduce stress levels. Although nicotine does have what you would call a highly stimulating effect, because it releases dopamine, which is also known as the human body's natural mood elevator.
Why do smokers take refuge in puffing away at a cigarette when they are stressed out or low in life? Well, the good effects of smoking are all in the smoker's mind – right from feeling relaxed to feeling uplifted – these good effects are all in the mind. Because we so often tell ourselves that cigarettes relax us and calm us down, we tend to feel these effects even in reality. So, even though you may have read all those articles and stories about how smoking can be injurious to the health, if it helps you relax and get over downers, then why not resort to smoking? After all, in this chaotic and highly competitive world, if there is anything that can calm us down and soothe our nerves, then it definitely can't be all that bad.
